LET’S DISCOVER THE PLACE DE LA REPUBLIQUE WITH GAD WEIL
Since Saturday June 2nd and until June 5th, Gad Weil transformed the Place de la République, the border between the 3rd, 10th and 11th arrondissement of Paris, into a green space. Gad Weil is a French artist who revisits famous places such as Place Vendôme in 2016, Champs-Elysées in 1990 and other places in Asia such as China or Thailand.
The current event Place de la République is the second edition of BiodiversiTerre : an event which promote biodiversity in green spaces at the heart of Paris. So this place is covered in grass and flowers for 4 days, on a surface of 20,000 m2.
The first edition of BiodiversiTerre provided 10,000 m2 of green avenue Foch in May 2017. BiodiversiTerre offers six different kind of spaces in Paris and its avenues.
For this new edition, Gad Weil wanted to reach a larger audience so that the passersby would realize how much nature is beautiful and that it needs to be protected. Also, it allows Parisians to imagine Paris with more green spaces.
By providing green spaces in passageways, in places known to everyone, Gad Weil offers a new point of view of these spaces, an ecological one, based on biodiversity in cities which are often polluted. It gives a new life ephemeral green spaces that Gad Weil uses. With this art, Gad Weil tries to raise awareness among citizens to make them realize that nature allows us to live, to eat and that we have to everything to preserve it.
Gad Weil talks of himself as an indefinite artist, as he is a self-educated one, who learned thanks to various celebrities. He expresses its art in public places so that he would reach a larger and more diversified audience.
