TOUR THE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL HOUSES WITH POP MY WORLD
As the pace of modern life continues to increase, with it comes a tendency towards stripped-back architectural sanctuaries, away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. Gone are the days of the stark, industrial designs of the 1960s: nowadays, architects are finding innovative ways to incorporate their projects into the surrounding nature. We run down some of the most beautifully designed contemporary houses in the world.
Peter’s House – Denmark
Situated in Copenhagen’s picturesque Islands Brygge harbour district, this house, designed for photographer Peter Krasilnikoff, is actually located in a renovated warehouse. The aim of architects Studio David Thulstrop was to preserve as much of the warehouse’s original brick interiors as possible, whilst still allowing for a light and airy atmosphere. The solution? A glazed central atrium filled with grasses, plants and a tree, running through each of the house’s three floors.

Estate Bungalow – Sri Lanka
Located in Matugama, this breathtaking wooden estate was designed by Sri Lankan architect Narein Perera. Overlooking a 17-hectare estate of rubber plantations and lush jungle vegetation, the project’s objective was to create a space that would grant privacy and rest, yet still allow the estate’s natural setting to continue to flourish, uninhibited.

The Jungle House – Brazil
Much like the Estate Bungalow, The Jungle House (or Casa Na Mata) was designed with a view to uniting nature with modern living. Created by architects Studio MK27, the estate’s position in the landscape achieves minimal disturbance to its surroundings; with a magnificent view over the Paulista shore on one side, the other side of the house is nestled amongst the canopy of the dense Brazilian rainforest.

Ultramodern Shell Residence – Japan
Located in Kitasaku, in the district of Nagano, these two striking structures stand isolated in the heart of a vast forest. Unlike the other projects, designers ARTechnic Architects were not seeking to blend into nature when they dreamed up the Shell Residence – instead, the concept of coexistence formed the root of the project, producing an almost UFO-like design that provides a comforting shelter amidst the humidity of the surrounding woods.
